Hamza was once a slave to a great house that he would rather not talk about. His service was forced upon him by his father who had owed the house a great debt and could not pay it. In the slave pits Hamza learned many things about the universe as it is,was and should be. He became a master of the sword and hand to hand combat and was soon allowed to perform in the arena for the crowds pleasure. It was during one of these performances that Count Argus Morntel saw the fighting spirit in Hamza and purchased his freedom from the great house that had owned him.

Hamza was transported to Planet Greanta home of house Morntel as the new sword master. He did not adjust well to his new life at first having been raised from a young child unable to fully speak to a hard man in the slave pits. It was years before he would wear the houses garbs or even eat with the rest of the household staff and fighting men. he never spoke and would consider any insult or joke as a challenge and respond with deadly force.

Once he had adjusted to his new life and his freedom Hamza became the greatest tutor that House Morntel ever had in the art of sword fighting. When his Counts daughter came of age she was entrusted to Hamza with sword training among other types of training. They very quickly became great friends but it stopped there as neither had feelings beyond friendship for the other.

When Duke leto of House Atreides came to Greanta seeking alliance with the Count Hamza had the pleasure of challenging Duncan Idaho and Gurney Halic two of the Dukes greatest fighters to a duel. Hamza did not win both fights but he did win against the famous Duncan Idaho. Hamza had nothing but respect and a feeling kinship towards the two men who much like himself were rescued from the slave pits of other worlds and other houses. Hamza's master Count Argus Morntel, quickly became one of Duke Leto's strongest supporters.
