EDIT: So my dad called me the other night, to inform me that she came home Monday night. -.- We all assumed she was "gone" because she never stays away from home, especially for 2+ days.
THIS MAKES ME HAPPY.
BUT STILL.
XD
Maggie.
Aka: Magoo. Mags. Magnum. Mai.
Girl you were the best dog a family could ever have. To this day we still don’t know if you were dumped outside of mom’s work, or if you simply went on Walkabout because you were bored.
It was probably the latter.
Regardless, I’m going to be selfish and say that I’m glad you did, because if you hadn’t….we wouldn’t have wound up with you. So all in all living in Iowa wasn’t all that bad; we got you.
You were the smartest. You knew when sis and I got on the bus in the mornings for school, and you knew when it dropped us bsck off afterwards. You’d wait for us on Great Grandma’s porch. You knew when dad got off of work every afternoon. You’d wait for him at the end of the driveway, and race him back up to the house. You’d hang out long enough to tell him hi, and make sure he was ok, then you’d gone on about your business. Even recently, when he swapped shifts, you’d make sure you were waiting for him. You were always so excited to see great grandma, but you knew she was fragile, so you never jumped on her. You listened to her better than anyone ever did.
You were so playful. Snow was your favorite. One time we were all out playing, and you got so excited you barreled me over, then took off with my stocking hat. Another time you got so excited to see is you ran as hard as you could at us, on the ice, and couldn’t stop. We collided and I fell over, but it was too funny to be mad about. Big sticks were also your favorite. Big sticks that were saplings that had fallen over. You took us out one time with one end, then got it stuck between two other trees and couldn’t figure out why you couldn’t run forward. It was pretty cute. Even as you got older, and you couldn’t run as fast as you used to, you always did. All day. Running was also your favorite. And turning turtles over onto their backs because you couldn’t eat them…
And hiking your leg to pee on the tires. You’re probably the only female dog I’ve ever had that actually hiked her leg, and that was awesome. You were a badass; you could catch anything you wanted, because nothing could outrun you.
You still are a badass. You’re still the best dog ever. You always will be. Because even if you’re not here, you’re still here.
You were one of us.
You’re still one of us.
You, were dad’s best girl. You kept him sane through everything, and now…..now you’re gone. He has Harley, but that’s Harley. He’s a big stray goofball that we took in, and you conditioned and trained and loved, in your own way. I think he’s what kept you going for a long time, because you were too stubborn and jealous to leave him alone with dad.
But I think you knew.
And that’s why, you stubborn old goat, you went off into the woods, the one place you loved, and died. You weren’t going to do it while dad was home, or in front of him, and you weren’t going to do it if you knew Harley wouldn’t be able to take care of him.
He’ll never be you, but he can be like you.
We’re all going to miss you so very much Mags, because every single one of us loved you so much. And we know you loved us, too.
You’ll still be taking care of us from doggie heaven; running all the time, eating those woodchucks you hated so much, and generally causing all kinds of happy ruckus.
Take care old girl, and enjoy the long, peaceful rest. You’ve earned it baby girl.
