Kitsune twins of Sugi Hayashi
The Kamigawa block in Magic: The Gathering is known for two things: Its underpowered, self-parasitic mechanics and its incredible aesthetics and worldbuilding. ...That and a certain Legendary Creature - Rat Ninja, but we won't go there. Yet.
Another section of thread in the aforementioned epic tapestry that is an ongoing Magic: The Gathering themed storyline between myself and a close friend. When our heroine found herself jaunted into Kamigawa and nonetheless hunted between worlds by her pursuers, she called upon the connections of a long-time friend to bring them a night's repose in the village of Sugi Hayashi, on the border fringes of the Jukai forest. They stay in the hospitality of two capable Kitsune healers and spellcasters; Opal-tail, an accomplished seer and doctor who once served in the high courts of daimyo Konda, and Pearl-Tail, a more modest-minded herbalist who eventually brought their practice to the countryside in the wake of the Kami war.
In short, a couple of Magic: The Gathering themed Kitsune OCs from a roleplay. And if you made it through that paragraph, I'm impressed.
One of those aesthetics was the etherial grace and otherworldliness in the design of the kitsune, which had more the look of the traditional spirits of myth than of their real-life furred counterparts. Also these weird floppy ears, but through a combination of apathy and artistic license I've omitted that bit. Distinctive as they were, calling their shape to mind was a simple task. Trying to remember or render traditional Japanese attire or how it was shown in Kamigawa? much, much more difficult.
But it helped to recall that Kamigawa was a fantasy land and I could hide behind the lack of authenticity. Hopefully it's passable, at least.

Nice to finally have faces to our most gracious hosts =D
I think they turned out very nice considering the aesthetics of the Magic kitsune facial features, I was worried wondering how they'd turn out, but they came out very pretty indeed ^^
I do like the little touches of stitching in their robes, as well as the floral patterns to boot!

I tried to give them both the same leaf-and-vine crest on different parts of their attire; not sure if it's as apparent to an observer as it was to me, but...
Still, it was a pleasure to draw them out! They may be Asian-themed twin sisters, but I wasn't about to give them both identical outfits or looks. THAT was a cliche I'd hoped to avoid.
