I'm not entirely sure what happened with the whole thing, as in the reporter. But still it was a horrible incident and it's good everyone was alright in the end.

I dont even want to watch it. but the fact she was laughing in the middle of a terror attack story... its like OMG GAS ATTACK!... but oh its ok because i find them funny.

Apparently Midwest Fur Fest got a "gas leak" which, from what I understand, was a chlorine gas attack.
As far as I know at least. I also heard that its being considered a terrorist attack because 19 people were sent to the hospital.

I haven't really followed the events though cause I never found interest in conventions.
I'm just hoping that all those who were affected are alright :<

Well, I was there. Kind of. I live off campus really close and we missed it but half an hour, but all of the furs got out and everyone was fine.

As I said, I haven't really followed it.
The news articles I read all said that 19 people had been affected enough to be hospitalized, but no one was fatally injured.

Thank god everyone is alive and alright.

The scuttlebutt is, it was actually rubber furries that did. Two idiots that were trying to chlorinate (A process to make the latex shiny without using oils or lubes) their rubber clothing cheaply and newbishly... when the chemicals started reacting, they rushed the bottle outside but it broke on the steps. Thus creating this whole mess in the first place.

False information.
A simple bottle wouldn't infest an ENTIRE hotel and be a cause for evacuation.

It was a bottle/jar as explained in the news. The reaction wasn't a bottle of bleach but powdered chlorine similar to comet. The reaction caused it to off gas chlorine gas and the floor was affected. Not the whole hotel. They evacuated as per procedure.

Still, it's said it was done intentionally, so if it was an accident they would have reported that already.

One day, one day people will hear the word "furry" and not care. They will accept the fact that we aren't going anywhere. But until that day we have to deal with all the hate, false information, slander, and any other form of verbal and physical abuse. It pains me that people hear "furry" and run away or insult us. The thing is, if no one outside the fandom heard of furries then there would be no hate. Its really childish to treat furries as different people. Being a furry is a hobby for most of us like building models or flying RC planes. Everyone needs to remember that the person standing next to you is a human being, they have feeling just like you. Its time to start to caring for one another instead of hurting, once we do that then we can move forward to greater goals. S.T.H.S.T.L. (Stop the hate, start the love!)
