I couldn't resist myself to get a close-up shot of Discovery's thermal protection system. Since these tiles are replaceable, the older ones are evident by the amount of discoloration they have from atmospheric reentry.

I was in Florida during the mid '80s. Saw 3-4 launches from the closer viewing area (mother and her husband were USN) and also saw Challenger, but that was from Orlando.

That's cool, I only saw one up close, that was Atlantis for STS-132. IT was either this one, Discocvery, or Columbia (depending if it was STS-60 or 62) that I back in early '94 on my way to Disney World.
