Diesel engine of the tug Lake Superior. Notice the steps to give an idea of size. This is an Enterprise engine built in San Francisco (when there was industry there, which I doubt is any longer the case!).
The engine is an inline 8 with turbo. The web says it's a 16x20" model DMQ-8 rated 1000 hp at 300rpm, which seems very low for that engine...? I'd expect at least 1200 hp in that configuration. Amusingly, paperwork I have says the engine weighs 98,000 pounds... 48 tons of magnificence :)
