I finally looked into GIMP program. Well, certain things are ok but the initial setup a bit jumbled. I found how to set the mouse scrollwheel to zoom in and out (like it should do by default). Unfortunately, it zoom at the center of the drawing for its focal point instead of the much more useful at the mouse pointer. Maybe that option buried somewhere.
Another pain is the way the individual windows and dialogs are displayed. The are treated separately and doesn't go into focus as a group if I click to a different app and then back. There is an option that supposed to make them stay on top but it doesn't work here. Makes it annoying and clumsy to work with.
Aside from that, the brush system I can deal with. Takes a bit to get used to it. One thing I didn't like is that the scale (basically size for preset brushes) is missing when you use them for the smear tool. Very odd as it would make it so much easier to use. I have to be lucky to have a brush at the exact size or else. Another thing, smearing can lag badly (though it could just be my system).
I heard someone made a version of GIMP that looks and somewhat behaves like PhotoShop. What I love to see is a Paint Shop Pro 9 clone version. I tried several art programs and always come back to PSP9 despite its shortcomings. I like its UI the best and seems the most logical. Others have at least one critical flaw that drives me nuts. Sure, PSP9 have it's flaws too but seems the better interface of the ones I tried.
Now about the drawing, it's a test but might have potential. I'm considering working on it some more. Perhaps even finish it. Don't know yet.
