The tug Kaleen McAllister goes to work to shove preserved Liberty Ship "John Brown" from dock in Baltimore harbor. The World War II ship (one of two surviving) sails on demonstration cruises a few times each summer. These ships were built by the thousands during the war to carry troops and supplies to Europe. The volunteers do a magnificent job maintaining the ship and presenting it to the public, with costumed re-enactors, live period entertainment, and a simulated aerial attack out in the bay.
Many Liberty ships were built nearby at Bethlehem Steel's vast shipyard, which naturally no longer exists. [They just blew up the blast furnace at the immense Sparrows Point steel mill visible on this cruise, too. It's going to be redeveloped into some nice retail space and probably some condos!]
The Kaleen recently had a little boo boo and sunk in the harbor. Luckily tug boats are indestructible and are often sunk and refloated a few times to teach them to behave.
