Unfortunately I have not read the book, and I have not seen the movie.

I would def read the book when you can. The movie leaves out a LOT!

Great job, but happy to report that accounts of Smaug's death have been greatly exaggerated. He is alive and well and still worshipped by the billions of followers of the three great Abrahamic religions. There was a reason he plunged into the depths of the murky lake where his supposed 'remains' could not be seen, but Tolkien died before he could finish the amazing tale.
