My how the the change in a year makes, This looks even more gloomy and dismal then the original. It looks almost as a fall from grace image, like once I Ruled this City and now it is all ruins, and I am the only one left to step foot upon the ashes of my former kingdom, of sorts. His Skin and bones starving appearance also supports this in my mind.

You have really intresting point there :)
Though as I was making the original image the idea was different - Maria (yes, that's a female creature) was living in the city M, every day she was hunting, or just wiping off people who were too evil to live.
She got very tired of all of this, every day she was seeing only dark and evil things.
When once the rain started, it washed off all dirt and darkness, but at first it made everything even more dark.

She is your creature and know more than I would about what lead to this point, still an interesting image.
