Due to someone's (COUGH) prodding I took a little bit of time to draw the werewolf 'forms' of the two werewolf ladies I've posted in my gallery as of late. As a thought, Cassandra is about 5'8" as a werewolf to give a standard of her size next to Helvetica.
Now for some Canis Corpus werewolf trivia: A werewolf's 'wolf' form can be any state from mostly human to all wolf, it depends entirely on many factors and in fact any werewolf can have up to 4-5 different variations of their transformed states easily. It depends entirely on how they 'put on' their wolf skin. Helvetica's 'skin' is 'put on' in an unusual fashion that very few are able to replicate so it's very rare that a transformed wolf will be such a size disparity from their non changed form (In humanoid bodies, Cass is 5'4" and Helvetica is roughly 5'5"ish, giving her the biggest size disparity).

Mmmm, skinwalkers //touches Native American mythology//
But not exactly? While most werewolves will wear fur (and in fact are the only race who make any clothing with fur in it because worn fur is seen as a gift from their goddess), they don't wear their second 'skin'. It's more of a grown-on thing that is spawned when transformed and in most cases will vanish once it is 'taken off' again.

aha. I think I see how that works. have you ever read or played WoD werewolf? there they can "dedicate" items like a piece of clothes or a weapon or whatever, so it will become a rune on their fur when transforming to were-form. your idea sounds a lot like it. :)
also, Helvetica should be named Helvetica BOLD. :)

LOL prodding indeed xD (puns not intended, OR MAYBE INTENDED)
And dang that is cool! I really like the idea of various states of transformation, from full-sized monstrous werewolf to more of a shifting on the same scale. Does anything special happen with Helvetica's clothes when she undergoes a transformation like that there? She's pretty dang awesome there, and those braided tail hairs look really neat! Cassandra looks quite good herself too!

You know, I like that response of saying how the characters themselves would describe it, rather than directly stating how it works. It's a better way of having it explained to the reader during the story itself, and I hadn't even thought about doing that in response to headworld questions until now!
A simple system like that is also easier on both the writer and reader, as potentially long and complex descriptions don't need to be written, and those in turn don't need to be read thoroughly to understand how it works. I'm curious though, for those like Helvetica who are capable of such large size transformations, do they ever don armor in that big muscular state? Or would armor be more of a hindrance than the protection if offered?

Haha, it felt like the most simple way to explain the different transformations for that very reason haha c: Since it really is for each wolf a mental process vs a scientific/technical one.
Helvetica herself wouldn't put on armor on this body because A) its inconvenient to carry around another set of armor to fit this body and B) because, to her, she 'put it on' over her armor she feels her body is really sturdy without it. Others who are in more predictable situations may do and think otherwise about armor however.

Intentional or not, I like it xP
Aaah so psychological in addition to practical, the idea of 'putting on' that different skin I can definitely see as being a strong feeling of empowerment! Why bother with plate armor when you've got a massive layer of pure muscle you can put on instead that you can punch someone across a room with? :D

Ooo I like that! Could really get into the character's head with how that all works for them, are they subjected to the common trope of 'beast transformation = complete loss of control'? My guess is no, or at least not everyone and not in a general case since you've mentioned how psychological and individually this is all based. In that same vein I'm curious, is it considered a curse by society? Do individuals have a varying interpretation of it, ranging from curse to a hallowed blessing (seeing as how a god is supported by those believing in her)?
Also thanks for talking at such length about your headworld and such, I'm really liking how compelling your mythos is and all the stuff that goes with it :3

Very few believe its a curse since its spawned by their creation at all - that being said a human can be 'turned' to a werewolf and a human-born can consider it a curse since to them it is all unnatural to their original state.
Though even rarer are those like Shehk who will only transform into a proper werewolf form (vs her feral body) the emptier the sky is/ where the Watcher can't see her. Some for the reason of believing their 'mother' is ashamed/embarassed that she gave them wolf skin and others for more mischievous 'get in trouble while mom isn't watching' sort of a way. Shehk simply has a strong dislike for the Watcher and doesn't want her looking at her at all.

Ooooh so some of them *start* out as werewolves, I guess I missed that part!
Makes sense that there would be such diversity, I think it's good that you have that. Not everyone will have the same or even similar belief regardless of what or even who they are! I've got some similar thoughts on some aspects of my dragon characters and their different racial tendencies, cultural practices and such, and similarly no two communities should ever be the same :P

Yep! 98% of vampires and 90% of werewolves start out as such. Humans can be converted to either race (and in fact humans alone are the most populous) and some werewolves and vampires will choose to live as humans though they can't remove their physiology in the same way a human's can be added to. In fact, vampires are very...purist in their bloodlines and anybody who converts a human/is a converted human will be strongly shunned for it, so congregations of these shunned 'transformed' can gather up and become...a problem for The Bloodless (the goddess who made Vampires).
All worship in their own way, though, and I felt that was important since samesies isn't fun XDD

That is interesting about vampire society! Do these 'transformed' congregations tend to not believe in the goddess, or perhaps not in a way that she approves?
And yes, there are many ways people worship in real life, so it would make sense that there is a similar or even greater diversity in headworlds!
