I'm reminded of that story about the kid who wants to be a wizard's apprentice, and gets sent on a long and difficult quest to seek out the secret of magical powers. In the end, he returns home, stronger and wiser, but disappointed that he didn't find what he was looking for. However, when he reports to the wizard, the wizard tells him, "The magic was inside you all along!"
