The air was cool and crisp within the Hoenn region as snow began to fall. Decorations of Stantler and Delibirds were set up in front of several of the houses and shops in the small town. Lights flickered and danced against the smooth surface of the fresh fallen snow. It made Crim practically buzz with excitement and her partner, a Raichu, smile, bounce, and spark beside her. Crim’s tail thudded against the couch inside her home as it slowly wagged. She grinned down at her Pokemon before speaking.
“What do you think girl? Wanna go outside and play a bit?” Her smile grew slightly as she spoke. Her Raichu cried out and jumped up and down on the cushion, causing her owner to laugh and pet her between her ears. The electric type released a pleased spark into Crim’s palm, the feeling of it tickling and causing the fur on her lower arm to slightly stand on end.
She dropped off the couch onto the floor with a soft pat, her beloved Pokemon following along behind her. The foxgator approached a small row of hooks by her door and took the scarf off the first one. She draped the long scarf over her shoulders and wrapped it several times around her neck before pulling a warm hat onto her head, ears poking out the holes. She knelt down and wrapped a smaller, identical scarf around her Raichu and it called out with what seemed like a grin.
Crim pushed open the front door and was immediately greeted by a blast of chilly air. It caused her frame to shiver and shake briefly. She stepped out onto the snow covered ground; the sound of the snow beneath her feet making a satisfying crunch. Her chest inflated as she took a deep inhale of the sharp, cool air surrounding her. Her breath came out it a white puff from her exhale. It was quiet. No one else outside at the time. She assumed they were all inside wrapped in their blankets, asleep.
It was then, as she was lost in thought, that a frigid feeling hit the back of her neck. She yelped in surprise before whipping around. Her Raichu was there, a bit of snow clinging to the end of its tail and its little shoulders shaking with laughter.
“Oh, so that’s how it is. I see.” Crim slowly knelt down while she spoke. Her hands scooped up a big mound of snow and she pressed it into a crude sphere. “I’ll show you, you troublemaker!”
She chucked the snowball at Raichu and it thudded dully against their belly. The shock of cold caused it to jump and shake out its shorter fur. Droplets of melted snow and chunks that had yet to melt were scattered from the action. Its cheeks sparked with renewed determination. It turned itself around, dug its large back paws into the snowy ground, and then flung a spray of snow and frost. Crim brought her forearm up to shield her eyes while she was pelted. The ice stuck to the ends of her fur and caused it to shine from the colored lights surrounding them. She shook her head, flinging her own droplets, then looked down at her white coated body.
“It’s on now. C’mere you!” Crim launched herself forward with a laugh, sliding slightly on her stomach as her arm hooked around her Pokemon and hugged it close. She nuzzled against its cheek, the electricity making her fur stand on end once again, as she ruffled its own fur with a hand. It wiggled slightly in her grip, but she stood with it in her arms as she walked towards the large snow pile on the side of the path.
“This is what you get for starting this.” Crim’s grin became a playful smirk as she lifted them up before dropping them into the pile with a muffled thump. Raichu’s head soon poked out with a mound of snow atop its head. It shivered and sneezed, causing it to fall in a slight flurry. She plucked them free from the snow drift, pressed a loving kiss to its nose, and a quick apology. “Hey, you did start it. C’mon then. Let’s get something warm to drink. To show you I’m sorry. I’ll even make your favorite.”
It swiftly changed moods and smiled back, giving a loving lick to her cheek as she chuckled, shuffling back into her house still covered in snow, ice, and water. A cold reminder of the playful night they had.
