I'd been droning through a few movies lately, and one of them was the Isle of Dr. Moreau from 1977. It's a decent flick with star power including Michael York as the stranded sailor from the book of the same name. Here, however, he's been renamed as Andrew Braddock. The make up is fantastic but what drew me in was the promise of a TF involving Michael York into a panther.

That's where it gets confusing. Even though it's implied Andrew was spliced with panther genetics, the most it seems to do to him is make him look like a homeless man. He gets wilder hair, yellowed teeth, and mats of crepe hair glue onto his skin. Behavior-wise, he went into full on crackhead mood with raging tantrums, stammering and some general B-movie overacting. The changes were so subtle, I had to re-watch it twice to be sure.

To me, this was kind of a let-down. It's the entire reason I even watched the movie. I decided to remedy this with a re-imagining of Andrew Braddock's change to a panther including the uttering of the Law by Moreau's manimals. I hope you'll all enjoy this piece as it's the first I've done in forver.

P.S. The book is way better but the 1977 is probably the best of the adaptations I've seen so far.
