Well, what can I say? It’s definitely an improvement on the awful thing I produced last time, that’s for sure! XD
This is another ‘tester’ page… and it provided me with the opportunity to try out a few different techniques in the aims of finding a way of working that I can definitely stick to, for an extended period of time.
Even though it took longer than I expected to finish, this is ultimately the look and feel that I want concerning the Sweeney comic. It’s part Penny Dreadful, part Georgian parchment and very rough, just like the place it’s set in. There’s a Hogarthian atmosphere that I rather like.
Having said this, there are still some things that I’m not happy about… mainly to do with the characters and the text, but other than that… I finally kicked my perspective into shape! In fact this whole thing is proving to be a good exercise for me. It makes me concentrate on backgrounds for once, rather than just character expressions and attire.
It’s all good… as good as those pies! Perhaps… hmmm... heh heh, and I finally got around to inventing Sweeney’s unnerving ‘signature laugh’, which is like that of a hyena, rather than the ‘snk snk’ of last time. =p
Now, enjoy your visit to Bell Yard! ;)

Oh, that is very well done. Always a treat to see something in black and white sketch, and a double treat to see something that you've obviously taken so much time and care (and the odd drop of blood) over. There's always something of a tension between graphics and text in a comic. The only thing I could suggest is try to keep the talking for close-ups etc. in smaller panels so that the speech bubble isn't obscuring any action that you want people to pay attention to. *sigh* Roll on, talking paper. Everyone who tries comic making has to find their own equilibrium on that front- consistency is probably the key thing. But you have great attention to detail in this page, and the backgrounds work very well.
Yeah, mine's like this: http://nylawblog.typepad.com/photos...../05/drevil.jpg
