A practice sketch of my hands-down favorite Sonic character: Vector The Crocodile!
It's a bit fugly, but I like it. His pose is based off of a pose he had in Knuckles Chaotix, hence the ring. Yes, I gave him pecs and a crotch bulge.....I couldn't help it.

Yup. He's number one for me. He's just so buff and cool and badass and he ALWAYS is the first one to know what the hell's going on in plots that he has a part of.
My top five favorite Sonic characters would probably break down like this.
1. Vector
2. Storm The Albatross
3. Silver The Hedgehog
4. Sonic The Werehog
5. Sonic Himself. Specifically from the Dreamcast/Gamecube era. Once Sonic Colors came along and re-tooled him, he just became an unlikable douche...
My top five favorite Sonic characters would probably break down like this.

Actually, his portrayal in Sonic Colors is actually supposed to be closer to his original personality of being a mascot with attitude. I didn't mind because I like Sonic all around. Unless you seen those Fleetway comics...
Besides, I think it fits his character more. But I can give Sonic Colors another thing of making Tails a snarker too.
Another fave of mine was Big the Cat. I couldn't see why people hated him at the time SA came out. I just had a soft spot for him, despite his gameplay. It was quite a change of pace to introduce an easygoing character. It also helps that he's a BIIIIG KITTEH KAT! x3

He is closer to his original personification, but he lacks the trademark humility that made Sonic such a hero. He lacks weakness and he can NEVER portray ANYTHING besides "Cocky and in control" and "Cocky and in control." He treats saving the world and being a hero with a snide, snarky self-aware indifference that makes you feel like he doesn't like being a hero but does it out of obligation and a desire to be the center of attention. Sonic Lost World tried to even that out, but then they made him an apologetic little bitch who spends the game apologizing to Tails for the heinous treachery that is helping Eggman clean up his own mess.
Tails was also kinda derailed in Lost World into a confrontational, moody, insecure little asshole who spends the entirety of his time with Eggman talking shit about all of Eggman's creations right to his face when it's been established since Sonic Adventure that Tails admires and appreciates Eggman's work and sees Eggman as a rival mecha mechanic. He was re-railed in Sonic Boom, for whatever that's worth....
I like the Dreamcast/Gamecube era Sonic most because he had a heart. He's the kind of guy who fought Perfect Chaos not exactly because he destroyed the city but because sealing Chaos away wouldn't help soothe the anger in his heart. He's the kind of guy who wishes for a million handkerchiefs so that his genie friend can cry as much as she needs to to heal. He's the kind of guy with a heart so pure that unleashing the darkness of the night only makes him a more powerful force for good. Sonic Colors Sonic is the guy who won't shut up about how cool he is for a moment. Generations Sonic is the guy who, in the face of his multiverse collapsing, acts cocky and in control and completely rebuffs everyone's attempts to assist him in favor of using himself. He's the guy in Lost World who, upon heeding Eggman's request for help shutting off his rouge machine, feels the need to apologize to someone who's in the wrong for the situation when it was all EGGMANS fault in the first place.
XP Sorry for the rant. I just really don't like how Sonic characterized now. It'd be an interesting way to go for personalizing Super Sonic, but not for plain jane Sonic. XP
