best kind of patreon! those who lock content behind the patreon paywall is...ugh

I'm hoping I won't be badly tempted to go this route in the future, but I'm not expecting a huge flow of cash or anything, so everything should be good. ^^

as soon as you start locking stuff away, people are going to get pissy! It's a good way for preview content, like sketches, but final products should never be hidden

Honestly, I kinda disagree. Artists should have the right to be paid for their hard work, and be funded for projects and works. This not only helps the artist financially, but it makes their time worth it.
Please support the artists that do or do not chose to do this. Support artists in general. Now I'm not saying anyone -has- to, but to say that they are wrong for doing it or that it "shouldn't be done" well, thats completely opinionated and overall seems kinda downgrading to the artist. They can do as they wish and restrict the content they see fit. It is not a right to see an artist's work. They don't owe anyone anything. That's just my two cents though. >.<;

Restricting your art so only a limited amount of people can see it is dumb. You're still getting paid through patreon ,why lock it off? More people that your art the better . Patreon on is not a paid porn site .it's a place where you can get money to fund projects.

I think it has to do with the fact that a paywall will, in some cases, inspire more people to want to become Patrons so they can bypass it. It's a strategy.

sure, but there are plenty of people who have no paywalls, and make a bunch of money and have tons of patrons. What's the point of making art for people, if people can't see it?

I guess some people just aren't fortunate enough to receive that luxury, or just come down with outright greed. If I were to ever resort to it, it'd be purely to further reward my Patrons with something more special, whose support means a load to me. We'll see if that ever plays out though..

I think most people just make stuff available earlier, or even allow their big top patreons time to chat with you, give ideas, so on, maybe offer some kind of present for big time donators? i donate to someone, and they draw me a comic every few months. best way to think of a patreon, is not something you must worry about. Think of it as some added bonus income? Eventually, if you keep at it, and do a good job, more people will come, and want to support you. Want is a big thing, not need.

You have some really nice ideas there. ^^ Letting Patrons see an art piece earlier is definitely something I've been thinking about. Have it set to "Patron Only" and then when it's released to everyone else the next day, just remove the lock. I could possibly make that work.

I see your point here, and honestly I'm taking notes as well because Fid is right, you do have good ideas! However, I still wouldn't go as far to say that it is a dumb thing. Want and need are two completely different things yes, but dome people really -do- need the money and funding. People do not -need- to see every pixel an artist draws. ^^;

of course! but it's like trying to make it big on youtube. ain't gunna happen overnight, you need to build upa base. best way is to give good incentives, without forcing people to pay, since that can turn alot of people off

personal i disagree this this i dont like it with any of the artest i know doing it most of then doing exclusive content ir starnting it and taking iff with the money personaly i would rather donate using pitch in or some thing insted where if i like some thing i can tip you. sorry im just being honest here not to offend i just hope you under stand what im saying, just to many people to many chances. *i mostly disagree people using t to make porn art it was never made to fund people making 10+ art :/ * sorry i hope you under stand and maby fill me in a little more on your point of view

The only exclusive content that will be provided are WIPs of products that everyone will eventually get to see, so I wouldn't say you're missing out on a huge thing. I'm not sure how long you've watched me, but I am good on delivering content so there's no need to worry about me being a douchebag and taking off with the money and not staying true to reward tiers. :P

Anyway, it's really your choice, but like I said, you won't be missing out on exclusive art other than works in progress.
