What you're about to read are seven pages of Ace and Queenie comics from 2004 that I've never shown to anyone except the editorial staff of Radio Comix-Elin Winkler,Pat Duke and Will Allison. This is essentially A & Q's "pilot episode". I did them completely on spec, with no guarantees, and used them to pitch the series and characters for FURRLOUGH.
This is a seven page scene from a story entitled THE BLOODY SCIMITAR GAMBIT , that I plan to do at some point in the near future, hopefully as my second A & Q Graphic Novel, after I do THE BROKEN CROSS GAMBIT,my collaboration with my friend
lechevalier. THE STORY: Alex and Denise are assigned to go undercover as Humanitarian aid workers in order to prevent the W.R.A.I.T.H. organization from sabotaging the fragile peace that has been brokered between two small middle eastern states that have been at war with each other for over thirty years. Both countries are rich in natural resources which may be the only hope for their long suffering peoples to survive. W.R.A.I.T.H. however, has other ideas, and have formed an alliance with the ousted ruler of one of the two tiny nations,Abahma Nabul: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/250646/ . Joining Alex and Denise on this mission is their not very reliable and not always trustworthy (reluctant) fellow Bureau 52 Operative,Jacques Dimonne : http://www.furaffinity.net/view/103272/ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/235380/ . During the course of the story, our heroes also befriend a little Arab girl named Sajida. Sajida is apparently an orphan, her home village having been destroyed during one of Abahma Nabul's terrorist raids.Alex first meets Sajida among the Refugees living in a camp set up by the Humanitarian organization that he,Denise and Jacques are embedded with.Alex defends Sajida against another refugee,a hulking brute of a man who tries to bully the child into giving him her portion of food. As this sequence begins,an explosion is heard in an oil field on the outskirts of the refugee camp. Both the camp and the oil field are under the protection of American troops, but before they can find out what happened out in the oil field, reports of widespread acts of sabotage begin to come in,which Alex and Denise deduce must be the work of Abahma Nabul. I'm sharing these very early A & Q pages with all of you as a way of reaffirming my comittment to continuing to develop Ace and Queenie as an ongoing comics series.
