I noticed most of the pictures I have of the finished suit are from the front with the wings open, and you don't really get to see the full product that way, so here are some bonus angle shots! ♥ :)
The wings are 12-feet in wingspan when open fully and were made with over 200 real turkey feathers!
These pics were taken very quickly on a cell phone a long time ago, but unfortunately they've broken since then, so... *shrug* for now this will have to do. I'm still really proud of them and I'd love to re-make them someday! :D
(Also, I hope you enjoy the cat faces as much as I do! I was in crafting mode (no makeup and messy tied-back hair) when these were taken, and cats just make everything 10000x better, always. ♥ x3)

Thank you!! :D
To be honest, I've been thinking about that a lot lately! I'd love to start making these again, and I've been been brainstorming for materials, so those are really great suggestions! :D
It's a shame real feathers didn't hold up as well as I hoped! They looked really impressive at first, but after a few wears, they started to get really messy.. No wonder birds spend so much time preening! >w<
I've been thinking of ways to try to preserve or reinforce the real feathers (some kind of plastic coating, maybe?), but foam/felt/etc would be a lot more durable in the long run and it would definitely be easier to airbrush and have more color options, so I'll have to give it a test run! If people like the result, I'd definitely be interested in taking on commissions! ^u^

Yeah, real feathers look nice at first, but aren't suitable for wings that are to be used over and over (like fursuit wings), so are best used for a one-time cosplay or theater production. Here are the wings I know that use stiffened felt/fabric (has a nice fuzzy texture, and easy to airbrush):

And these wings use craft foam (flexible, durable, and easily-sculptable and paintable):

(Close-up of feather-detailing you can do on craft foam: http://daniellehurley.blogspot.ca/2.....thers-yes.html and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16232299/ )
And these wings use plastic: http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/gyrhawk/ (see also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzArQN3qlcw )
There are other types as well (like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrhke8Q0Pz4 ), but these types are the most suitable for fursuit wings, I think--much more durable than using real feathers, and you can get the same realistic look. If you'd be interested in taking on such a commission for me, please let me know. :) (Here's a rough mock-up of the wings I'm hoping to have made, which will be attached to/moved by my arms and hands: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/16154463/ .) :)

Wow!! Thank you for all the references! These are really helpful!! :D
I was crushed when the original pair broke (Wood frames - another thing I'm definitely replacing with something MUCH more durable!! They'll most likely be metal next time! >w<), so I've definitely been wanting to make a new personal pair!
I'm hoping to make a new set of 12-foot wingspan wings soon, and possibly dabble with some smaller wing designs, too, so I'll most likely test-drive these new ideas on those and see how it turns out! ♥ :D
I'll definitely post pictures and send them to you as I start working on them! You seem really knowledgeable about wings, so I'd love to talk about wing tips and ideas, too! :D

Welcome! <3 I've been plotting out moving wing designs for the past 5 years, lol: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3369191/ and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3369165/ :) Keianza has a nice tutorial as well (forgot to link that one): http://silvermoondragon.exofire.net.....als/Wings.html She's currently making a pair of articulated osprey wings for my hubby, but she couldn't do my albatross ones as well, so I've been trying to find someone who can. I could do it myself (I know how they need to be done, after making the working mock-ups), but I am hindered by a lack of workspace, difficulty getting the materials I need here (would have to order them from the US), and also lack of time and energy (I have severe chronic fatigue), so it's just better for me to commission them. And yeah, it's best to not go with wood, but rather aluminium, Delrin rods, or carbon fiber (like fishing poles and kite rods), as they are lightweight and durable--and somewhat flexible, if you don't go with aluminium. Really looking forward to seeing your designs and pics, and sure, feel free to chat about wings anytime; they are my passion! :D <3
(P.S. Here's another cool design I found the other day: http://www.blisskolbautomata.com/pr.....echanical-duck ) :)
