Inspirationally speaking, this one was kind of an Ashley Wood does K. K. Slider affair. It was fun to get back to painting after a couple weeks away from it between vacation and the subsequent work explosion.
I actually sat down to sketch some last night, but wasn't really feeling anything that was coming out. Tonight, this popped out pretty easily, so I guess I just needed a day to get back in the swing of things <3 It was fun and a nice challenge to stick to broad, chunky strokes and not to get too finicky with it.

Well, as folks below are very aptly pointing out, my stuff is still way tighter than Wood's -- I've got a lot of loosening up to do here, too. Still, I'd recommend pushing yourself to be more loose and expressive than you're used to as an exercise to any artist. It's hard to resist the temptation to get in there and render out every little thing, but like you say, something rougher retains a fluidity that often dies in a more tightly rendered piece.
I know >_< Even when I'm pushing myself to be crazy loose, it still winds up like this 9_9...
But! Practice makes perfect and all that. And if I wind up somewhere between Ashley Wood's expressiveness and, say, Phil Hale's rendering, you know...I'll be happy! Hehe, some of us just weren't meant for heavy abstraction ^_^
Either way, thanks! I was really happy with the weight this one had, so it's awesome of you to mention that.

Yeah, my stuff tends to be pretty enough, but flat and pretty vacuous, so it was fun to do something a little more classical and try to put in some weight and spatial feeling and atmosphere.
It's a trend I'd like to continue if I'm not incredibly lazy. So basically it's anyone's guess 9_9

DAMN this is truly beautiful.
As far as this being Ashley Wood-ish, limited palette & tone wise yeah, but it's really all you. No gun-toting robots with plump, be-thonged girls perched on their metallic shoulders :P
but yeah, i love this guys stance! somehow simultaneously fluid & crisp.

Heh, if this were Wood, I'd just see a lot of photoshop brushstrokes everywhere, maybe just on top of a picture or a screenshot. (If you ever read the Metal Gear Solid comics he drew, a lot of the panels are just him drawing on top of screenshots. Or in the new Tank Girls, the first issue is just him smearing everything all over the page, so for the rest they got some guy to lay it all out into panels or at least sections so it's actually readable). Unless you pay him more... in which case it looks a lot better, but that doesn't mean it's not just a re-do of someone else's picture.
