Stepping away from the rock shelter, Maji shakes what little rain clung to his pelt. A grimace sets on his face as he gazes across the soggy lands he calls home. "Mother will be upset that I got caught in the rain." he thinks to himself. Stepping down the rocky shelter, he begins his search for her. Walking through the shallow waters, Maji glances around to see if he can find his mother. His mother, Bushira, would habitual ease her blistered and scarred paws in the serene waters therefore he believed he would find her again.
"Mother?', he calls out as he flicks his ears trying to pick up any sort of sound. As he continues to call out for her further down the stream he starts to notice the brims of the stream covered in debris from the recent storm. Broken tree limbs and chucks of earth muddle the once pure waters that his mother cherished. With his mind more preoccupied with the debris he stumbles over something solid in the middle of the waterway. Maji goes down with a heavy grunt and his reward for his absent mindedness with a mouth full of muck.
Once he regains his footing, Maji shakes the mud and filth out of his mane. Filled with embarrassment at such a foolish mistake, he glances back to see what he tripped over. His eyes enlarge as he discovers its the soggy corpse of an adult lioness. His ears flatten along his head and mouth drops as it dawns on him that it is the body of his mother.
