May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose - Tribute to "Litt
The world of country music lost one of its best ambassadors yesterday. At a whopping 4'11" tall, Little Jimmy Dickens didn't tower above his compatriots, but his brassy voice, kind heart and sense of humor were larger than life. All of those remained strong as ever as he kept on performing at the Grand Ole Opry until age 94.
As an interesting side note, Little Jimmy was the first country singer to add rhinestones to his stage wear. His clothing designer, Nudie Cohn, decided to add rhinestones to one of his suits in the early 1950s, and the rest is country music history. Glenn Campbell may have sung about being a rhinestone cowboy, but Little Jimmy Dickens was the one who started it all.
Rest in peace, Little Jimmy.
