This is one of three plates we welded up on sheet metal brackets to swing on the target stand. This one saw a good variety of different rounds, from the 230 grain .45 ACP rounds from my home built carbine, all the way up to the 7.62x54r Bulgarian Heavy Ball from my Russian Mosin Nagant M44 carbine.

Well, it's from an 80% 1911 receiver which was cut to accept a slightly modified Mech-Tech Carbine Conversion Unit, and is not capable of using a slide. An older picture of it is over here, but it's since been updated with some nice wooden match grips and an EO Tech. I have a handful of McCormick Power-10 magazines for it. Quite the fun little thing. I'm working on a semi-auto Sten MK-III to dole out 9x19 en masse right now. Hopefully it won't take too much longer to finish that.
Someone's already tried that with a block of cast iron. The steel core 5.56 did the same thing, a chunk of one hit me in the leg and left a nasty bruise.
I think coming back it was sub-sonic and tumbling. Not sure if it was block or not, but hardened core bullets are a ricochet hazard when they can't penetrate their target. The jacket will often be stripped off and forced in the opposite direction.
All I got was a bruise on my leg, about where a nerve is, and it went numb for a few hours. I had said not to use the steel core on the plates, and a few snuck in there while my roommate was shooting, anyways.
