It's really very simple working with wax, just a lot of melting and forming, kind of like (depending on the wax you get) clay that keeps it's shape better.
With this all I did was use a piece of ring wax, made the middle my size and melted the outside, you should give using wax a shot, then all you have to do is take it to the casters, and refine it a bit when you get it back.

Well wax i am familiar with for the most part since i have been in a Candle making guild learning medieval and earlier techniques for making candles and torches from some of the oddest things Like certain fish and of course cow and other animal fats and certain spices when boiled give up a wax you can skim off. Old Eastern temples used wax gathered from cinnamon. and of course there is beeswax and today we have wax from Petroleum and Soy and other things.
and even though i have known about lost wax casting for a long long time i have just never considered doing it because it would cost quite a bit of money i guess. i knew about it being used for bronze and other metal stauary and jewelry and well it made me think that is was more the province of the more well off than i.

Oh, I'm not well off, I'm usually dead broke, but casting isn't all that expensive if you carve things just so, say for a ring (I haven't done it to this one yet) depending on how big it is, it's best to hollow out the inside, since it's a weight based thing, but yeah, it can be expensive if you don't hollow things out I guess. But hey, it's silver or food with me, and I can go without food if need be
