A story for my friend
sournote103! =)
Tiran and Rerim work at a software firm as interns, but they decide to get some extra cash by going into guard duty, though it might not be exactly how they planned it...
I hope you all enjoy the story, I would love to hear what you all think! =)
“Anthro awareness month,” Tiran read off of a page being handed out, Rerim sipping a cup of coffee as they sat with the other interns. The pair was interning at a popular computer software manufacturer, after handing out all of the papers their boss pushed his glasses up his nose as he looked closely at the paper.
“As all of you know, with the recent coming out of the anthro species into society, we have to be culturally accepting of their various species. As interns of our prestigious company, we expect you, the future of our company, to especially pay attention to these changes in our policy as... blah... blah... blah...” His voice droned on as Tiran and Rerim quit paying attention, they’d already made friends with some anthros, and they weren’t prejudiced against them in the least.
Setting the paper aside as their boss lamented on about how important it was for them to be nice to the new incoming anthro workers, Rerim leaned over and whispered into Tiran’s ear. “Hey, did you hear about the high paying job in the warehouses?” Glancing over, Tiran shook his head as Rerim smiled. “I heard from some of the other workers that in the warehouses, they have paying jobs for some of the interns as long as they’re willing to work guard duty! They’re good wages too, and we can continue being interns in here during the day. Here’s the email,” he said, and whipping out his phone he pressed the screen a few times, and Tiran felt his phone vibrate and he slipped his out when their boss had his back to them.
“Guard duty, twenty dollars an hour, interns are prefered to outside sourcing. Anthros welcome...” it went on, but Tiran pretty much stopped at twenty dollars an hour. “Rerim, that’s a lot of money for a guard duty job! We should totally do it!” he hissed in excitement, Rerim nodding as they heard the loud clearing of a throat in front of them. They snapped to attention as their boss regarded them with a raised eyebrow, and both interns muttered their apologies as he rolled his eyes and continued on with his spiel.
Flipping out his phone once more as their boss stopped paying attention again, Tiran looked up the time and place where they could meet with the warehouse boss to arrange an interview. He pinged Rerim with a message letting him know that he’d set up a interview for them, and he would email him with the time later. Rerim nodded as he took another sip of his coffee, watching the clock tick slowly as the boring meeting went on.
***
Walking through the building towards the front after their meeting, Tiran nodded to some muscular anthro guard dogs standing at posts to make sure that no one tried to steal their inventory of high tech equipment from the main building. They’d started appearing a few weeks prior, they weren’t exactly the smartest from what Tiran had seen as they had looked confused at him when he had asked them the time, but they were strong and fast as he’d watched them take down someone who had been trying to slip out a five hundred dollar piece of equipment from the public store, and they were dragged off to be locked up. “Do you ever wonder where the anthros all came from?” he asked Rerim, his friend glanced up from his phone.
“A lot of them are saying they’ve been coming from evolution, some of them having lived in clans out in forests while waiting for humanity to accept them, while some are being born every day from regular humans,” he explained, they stepped out of the building and walked onto a bus bound for the warehouses. They didn’t have an interview yet, but they were told to drop by early so they could pick up some paperwork they would have to have done for their interviews.
Holding on to a pole, Tiran nodded to a few of the oncoming passengers of the bus, a few of which were anthros. He grimaced when some of the other humans gave them glares, and sighed as he watched as a smaller anthro kid was forced to stand because none of the people at the front of the bus wanted to give up their spots. “You’d think we’d be past this...” he muttered, taking a sip of his drink before tossing it in a nearby trash can.
“There’s always a new wave,” Rerim said, spinning his hand around in a clockwise fashion. “Everything’s bound to repeat, no matter how hard he try to fight against it.”
Tiran nodded, he knew it to be true, though he didn’t like it. The bus rode up to their stop, and Tiran slipped off while giving the anthro kid a kind pat on the shoulder and a smile. The warehouses were large, and all across the front of the building was the logo of their workplace. It wasn’t hard to miss, and with the massive amount of people walking in and out it looked to be busy today. They pushed through some heavy doors and walked into the warehouse, he noticed that a lot of the workers were anthros, and that pleased him as their work didn’t appear to be all bluster. They found their way to the office where they were supposed to get the documents for their interview, and they nearly bumped right into a suited fox anthro. “Oh, you must be Tiran and Rerim!” he said, smiling as the pair smiled back. “Pardon me, I’m Tom. I almost forgot about you two,” he chuckled, and they all shook hands before he gestured to follow him. “I know you two were expecting a interview, but since you’re here, and I actually already did a check with your boss up at the programing building, would you two like to go to orientation for your new job?”
“Wait, we got the job?!” Rerim asked, barely concealing his grin as Tom nodded generously. “That’s great!” he said, and Tiran nodded excitedly in agreement.
“Well I suppose I can take that as a yes. Follow behind me boys, and I’ll lead you to the orientation,” Tom said, and he started off with them in tow. “My apologies for some of the messiness of the factory, we’re in the process of getting everything cleaned up with the whole change in here.”
“Do you mean bringing in anthros?” Tiran asked, and Tom nodded. “How long have you been working here then, if you don’t mind me asking?”
Tom tapped his chin for a moment. “Two weeks,” he said, and Tiran and Rerim nodded, impressed that the fox was so in charge with just two weeks under his belt. “Now you two will just head into this room, and inside just take a seat as there will be someone in to help with your orientation shortly,” he said, smiling as the pair walked inside. He chuckled as he started off in another direction to help direct some of the dimmer anthros to get their work done. He’d only been a fox for two weeks now, his mental training was all complete, and he was glad to help now that he’d seen the light of being an anthro, and soon the two young men would be great help to their new anthro enlightening.
Walking into a warm room with a table set up with some snacks on it, Tiran and Rerim felt welcome as they plated up a few snacks and took some seats. “This isn’t going to be too bad,” Tiran said as he crunched on some pretzels, the table had a few anthro snacks too, but thankfully they had both anthro and human food.
“Yeah,” Rerim mumbled through his own chews, and they both turned forward as a handsomely dressed wolf stepped inside closing the door behind himself.
“Welcome you two, my apologies for making you wait. My name is Derick Huth, I will be your orientator today. Now you two are here for the guard positions, am I correct?” he asked, watching as Tiran and Rerim nodded and they set down their plates with their snacks. “Fantastic! Then this won’t take long at all!” Derick said, and slipping his hand into his jacket pocket he pulled out a remote and pressed a button. “Just watch the orientation video, and you two will be all ready for your new job!” he said, and just like that he walked out.
Tiran and Rerim looked at one another in confusion, how could a simple orientation video teach them everything they should know? They turned their gaze up to the screen and saw that on the screen was a large spiral, and for some reason once they started to look at it they couldn’t tear their gaze away. “What’s happening?” Rerim grunted, attempting to tear his gaze away as a blue mist started to fill the room.
“I don’t know, but I can’t stop looking at the screen!” Tiran yelled, the gas was filling the room quickly making both young men feel dizzy as the spiral went faster, the pair slowly stopped struggling as they felt compelled to do so.
“Welcome to your orientation as new Guard Dogs,” a woman’s voice said, Tiran and Rerim nodded numbly, the blue gas clinging to their skin as their skin started to prickle, and brown fur started to appear on their flesh. “From today on, you join the fantastic world of anthros! This is the best possible field to get into early as we as a company plan to launch a global transformation with our software, already the programers and interns of our company are being put through various sessions such as this to make them into the perfect anthros which will dedicate many hours to making programs which will hypnotize, and transform humans across the world into anthros! For now though, you will be turning into dumb obedient guard dogs, ones with little to no free will of your own, though do not worry, you are still very important anthros, and would never been ill treated!” the voice explained, Tiran and Rerim slowly nodding with dim smiles on their faces, their tongues started to flop out as they grew with the gas changing their bodies.
Their ears slid to the top of their heads, poking out of their thinning hair which already was starting to become plush fur. Their eyes were spirals as they dived deep into their programming, their clothes weren’t going to survive the ordeal as their bodies were putting on muscles as the evolutionary gas changed them from the scrawny interns into growing guard dogs. “Now you won’t think much as Guard Dogs, but you will know that you are very loyal, and as anthros you are important in the scheme of the Anthro Evolution Plan! Now why don’t you feel those pesky memories of intelligence and free will fade away, you two won’t need that where you’re going!” she said in a really chipper voice, the corniness of the recording was blatant, but Tiran and Rerim didn’t know any better as they slumped in their chairs, forgetting their human memories and forgetting the really complex thoughts they had as computer programmers.
Rips filled the air as their feet pushed through their shoes, their giant paws slapping against the floor as their muscles ripped with fur. Their faces expanded into muzzles, and their tongues grew out longer and dripped a bit with their saliva as they didn’t have the thought to retract their tongues into their mouths. Though their bodies were limp, their ears continued to stay perked and attentive as they listened to the instructions of the video. “From this day on, you are no longer humans! You are the anthros of the future, the Guard Dogs that we need to protect our citizens against harm! No longer will you have to worry about really complex thoughts, just listen to the orders of your superiors! Now go out there, and put on your new uniforms to be given to you by your boss! You are now fully fledged Guard Dogs, good boys!”
The screen faded to black, and the two new Guard Dogs blinked a few times as the door opened revealing Derick as he walked back in with two packages in his hands. “Tim, Rare, come here,” he said, and Tim and Rare blinked as they grew accustomed to their new names, standing up and walking over to Derick quickly, though they both still drooled as they smiled dopely. The pair did look intimidating, though at the same time they looked awfully goofy with how dim they appeared. “Get your uniforms on.”
“Yes, Master,” the pair said, quickly pulling off any shreds of their old clothing without thought, and they got dressed in sharp Guard Dog uniforms.
“Good boys, now you two are to guard the front door of the warehouse, your programming has taught you how to use your new senses as anthros. Get to work, and do us proud,” he said, and they nodded while letting some drool on the ground before marching out one after the other. Glancing as the trail of drool, Derick sighed. “Maybe we shouldn’t make them so dim... well at least they’re completely loyal, now onto the next group of trainees,” he said, putting on his smile again as his tail wagged happily from another successful training.

Excellent story! Love the background that was built up around it, it's really in depth! Though I did predict the conclusion a bit more than halfway into the story, it was really well made! I can picture this world being expanded if you decide to make more stories surrounding it! Keep it up!
