Snooping around a mine site I found this elderly relic of a drag line. Tiny by today's standards, it's unlikely to survive much longer. Coal here is pretty high in sulfur and not very easy to market. And draglines are a relatively expensive way to get it compared to huge dozers and loaders.
Probably the only reason this machine is working is that it was paid for many, many years ago, and the owner doesn't have a big dozer and loader.
