I needed a convincing way to get Daws out of Atlanta and back to Flint. That first original script opens with his move-in day, but I didn't want to just do mass exposition. So I started at the genesis for this whole story--coming home, and briefly bonding with Tom Mulligan. And since Daws is Tom's "one who got away," it gives him more pathos than in the original opener.

I'll still salvage it, but the first installment may no longer be necessary.
