287 – Just Punching
So remember how last week I talked about my childhood fear of the bunyip? Naturally my good friend Trickunicorn decided to very kindly bring those fears back to life with this atmospheric rendition of said fiend. THANKS A LOT, YOU BITCH XD
Speaking of new things, check out the links at right. I updated them to be a little more thematic, trying to get a good collection of links that speak toward childhood fear type stuff, so that I can peruse them on a more regular basis for inspiration. If any of you guys happen to think of any others that I should include, please do let me know. I’m always looking for that sort of thing.
Okay okay, now I have to tell you about something hilarious that I just found. So the other day, I was looking at a local bookstore in Chico, California and happened to find, in the local author’s section, a book called PinoChico: The Chico State Freshman. Of course, Pinochico is, like, the ULTIMATE child-traumatizing book, so I had to take a look at this adaptation. In this version, PinoChico (note capitalization) is a living marrionate who enrolls in college at the local university, Cal State Chico. I quickly skimmed the book and was delighted to find that was hilariously terrible. First, it’s mostly just an excuse to shoehorn in as many pointless references to local landmarks as possible, to the point that I began to suspect that book was bankrolled by the local chamber of commerce. Also odd about the book is that every chapter appears to have been written by a different person; the back flap revealed that it was a collaborative class project “to engage health education and gerontology students in novel writing to promote social and spiritual health.” On the one hand, an adaptation of Pinochio that transplants the story to a modern college sounds like a pretty neat idea — especially since Chico State is well known as a drinking and party college. Oh certainly PinChico will face Pleasure Island-style temptations to party hearty that may interfere with his education! I was especially curious at what kind of analogues the authors might choose for the Fox and the Cat or the giant dogfish. I haven’t read the book yet (I’ll wait till after I finish Quite Contrary) but my brief skim looks like the authors completely jettisoned everything about Pinochio other than the “living puppet” thing. Oh yeah, and they write like babies. But I’ve said enough for now.

They're probably not very aware, given what we've seen of them. But it's a mystery how lucid they are!
So far, PinoChico's penis shrinks whenever he lies and his butt expands when he "lacks courage." Keep in mind this book was written by a college professor and his class, so he wrote that down and then gave it to his students to read. And they continued writing down scenarios where this happened.
