So, I answered an ask on my tumblr regarding whether or not I felt iffy about my art when I was just starting out.

So what you are seeing here are the same character Vex. First one posted in 2001 on VCL, the other one one of the more recent pics of him.
To be honest I've never felt or thought I was "gifted" Hell through middle school and highschool I wasn't the one artistic kid. There were a few, and they were WAY better than me. ( probably still are) I mean I honestly feel like I have been clawing my way out of "bad" to "okay" and I don't regret the journey at all.
I'm still working and will always feverishly pursue improving, but I'd be silly to think I haven't come a long way either.
PS:
Don't ever go through "crying animu eye" phase. It's awful... it's really dumb.. just.. I mean.. don't.

I think the worst Argument I've heard is that Japanese Styled Characters within the Manga/Anime Realm are over influencing "Bad Art". This is an incorrect statement... It's just a point where we all start when learning how to draw, we are influenced by what we watch and what we see. I used to draw The anime/manga styled characters because they are the easiest humanoids to copy, but I eventually grew out of making my characters look Japanese. :)

What comes to mind when I see this Is how much you've come into your own. I mean, that first image is stuffed full of influence, and quite honestly, what one might expect from a young new artist trying to put their work out there.
That second image.... You could just toss that at me and I'd be like "yeah that's Donryu". That is awesome.

As always, amazing to see so many incredible changes like that.
And well, everyone's view of "great" art differs, but even if you aren't to what you want to be yet, or what you think is as good as other artists, I think your art is excellent, distinctive, with a great style and a wonderful use of color and shading. A lot of personality and life. Wherever you go from here, I know I'll love it. ^_^
