A Star Trek concept sketch, and with a bit of back story, so apologizes for the long post.

tl;dr: A very rough concept sketch of a Star Trek character of mine, based off a race from the old DC comics.

Full: Back when DC worked on Star Trek comics, I picked up a two-part story called ‘The Alone’. Without going into too much detail, the story was kind of an interesting flashback/time travel story involving Kirk and crew.
One thing I always loved about the Star Trek comics (and the Animated Series) was that the artists weren’t afraid of portraying more unique and interesting aliens that didn’t look like actors with rubber foreheads, and in this story we are introduced to the Wumpar; a race on the verge of extinction from an alien aggressor they end up getting help from the Enterprise crew and are able to find a new home..
I don’t know why, but the Wumpar kinda captured my imagination and when I had thoughts of original characters I decided to have a Wumpar.

So, this is Ensign Sil (name is still a work in progress). Sil is a young tactical officer who spent a lot of time doing research and development on energy weapons; mainly trying to improve them in whatever ways he can. He gained some attention during his time at the academy and it was a great honor for him to join Captain Dorgan after graduation.

I’ve had this character for a very long time, yet it took me forever to actually do any art of him; I lost my issues of the comics and it took me forever to find proper scans of them and have proper references (the first two pictures are some shots of the wumpar in the comics, issues 62 and 63).
This is kind of a crap sketch though, I am still trying to get junk out of my system so this is a very rough first concept. There is a lot wrong so I may try this again when I feel more confident in my art.
