With my friend
sournote103 asking to make a backstory for his new character, Ryder, of course I went a little overboard and made a huge story here for him, and he made this fantastic picture!
Ryder is greeted by one of the most popular jocks at his college, and finds himself becoming friends with the husky, and his life changes as the husky gives him some of his homemade food.
I hope you all enjoy, and I would love to hear what you all think of the story! =)

“Hey there,” a voice shocked Ryder out of his reading, the quiet poodle glanced up from his reading to find a much larger husky standing over him. The husky had studs in his ear, and a collar strapped around his neck. The way he stood showed how confident he was, and Ryder gulped as he swept his book into his bag.
“S… sorry, I’ll find another spot,” he said meekly. Ryder was by no means confrontational, nor did he stand out amongst his classmates. He wasn’t exceptionally good looking, smart, or talkative. He was average, and so he was pushed around all the time.
“Nah, stay here,” the husky said, spinning around a chair and sitting on it before leaning on his forearms and smiling at Ryder. “My name’s Jones, I’ve noticed you around here.” Ryder was shocked that anybody noticed him, well besides when someone needed his chair… Ducking his head in embarrassment, Ryder fumbled with his bag as he felt awkward. He had never been one to start a conversation… or continue one… or really have one. Sensing Ryder’s awkwardness, Jones smiled. “You’re Ryder, in my math class.”
Realizing that the dog was one of his classmates, now Ryder felt even more stupid as Jones was actually decently smart. Always helping others, he had proved himself a decent guy, though he was also on the football team and on the field he was known as the alpha because of his brutish attitude towards the other teams, easily running around them as the quarterback. “Yeah…” he muttered, finally talking now that Jones had announced his desire to talk. “S… sorry, I don’t talk much.” Ryder noticed a pretty border collie walking by, brushing her hair over her shoulder which made him blush even more as he coughed. “I… should go… I have to study for an exam…” he said quietly, standing up just to be stopped by Jones’ hand.
Jones met eyes with the smaller dog, and smiled. “Let’s do this again soon. I think you need a nice confidence boost.” Ryder didn’t know how to answer, so he made a noise half between a whine and a yes. To be honest… he wouldn’t mind hanging out with somebody, even if he was far more popular than he was…
Walking towards his room, Ryder glanced at the collie once more. He had seen her around the college before, but he was far too awkward to ever ask her out. It didn’t help that she was as cold as ice, and had the laugh of a killer whale… still, she was beautiful, and Ryder often missed her negative qualities in his stupor. He walked right into the door causing some passing jocks to laugh as he fell onto his rear, rubbing his muzzle as he stumbled to his feet and brushed off the dust. Blushing he walked in, still wondering why someone so popular as Jones would talk to him... it must just be a joke, and Jones wouldn’t pay him any mind from now on.

Ryder was up early in the morning studying for his exam when he heard a knock on his door. “Is it room inspection today?” Ryder asked himself. To be honest Jones was still on his mind as he was still wondering why a jock would talk to him, but by no means was his first inclination was that Jones would find his room until he opened the door to find the jock standing outside of his room with sweats on, and a bag in his hand. “J... Jones?” Ryder stammered, nearly slamming the door in the dog’s face because he was so shocked, but he held back as Jones smiled at him.
“I grabbed some breakfast for you, also I was wondering if you wanted to go on a run with me, Ryder,” the husky said, smiling as Ryder’s face went from shock to concern. “Don’t worry, it won’t be a long run,” he said, and Ryder glanced back nervously.
“I’m... studying...” the poodle said. His hair was all messy... what if that collie from yesterday saw him running and laughed? Jones made his way into his room though, and Ryder was reeling as he closed the door behind him and Jones revealed a delicious looking box of hash browns and eggs. “Well... I guess it won’t hurt too much,” Ryder muttered, though he was quiet as he ate, Jones talked on and on about stuff, and Ryder was shocked at how much he listened to what Jones said.
Stuff about sports... stuff about math.... Jones knew a lot of stuff, and even though he dressed with a spiked collar and studs in his ear, he was a really nice guy. Ryder never even dreamed of wearing a collar, let alone a spiked one, and he couldn’t stand a shot, so how would he ever get any studs or ear rings of any kind? “What did you think of the food?” Jones asked, watching Ryder quietly close up his box.
“It was really good, thanks,” Ryder said, still quiet but at least he had stopped stuttering for the moment. “Where did you get that?” he asked, and Jones chuckled.
“I made it all myself! I’m glad you liked it,” Jones said, watching as Ryder blinked in shock and smiled. “Well, will you go on a run with me now, Ryder?”
Brushing at his hair with his paw unconsciously, Ryder bit his lip and was about to say no when Jones gave him a smile, and something made him want to make the jock happy. “Sure,” he said, and dug through his dresser, but realized he had no sweats at all since he hadn’t been planning on exercising at all while at college. “I kinda don’t have anything to wear...” Ryder admitted, blushing as Jones patted him on the shoulder.
“Don’t you worry, Ryder. Let’s jog to the school store. I’ll grab you some sweats there!” Jones said, and Ryder gasped and shook his head, talking about not wanting to burn through someone else’s money, but Jones put up his paw to stop him. “Consider it a gift,” he said, and Ryder sighed before nodding and shutting his laptop down and turning off the lights.
The pair started jogging after the leaving the dorms, though the difference between their strides was obvious from the word go as Jones took up a strong pose while Ryder looked exhausted as soon as he started. The pair jogged for five minutes over to the school store, and while Jones was completely fine, Ryder was panting as he slumped over and panted for a while as Jones glanced around some sweat suits. “What do you think of this?” Jones asked, holding out a rather large looking sweat suit with the words Stronger, Faster, Better on the back.
“They... they kinda look... a bit big,” Ryder panted, but Jones just laughed as he folded them up and walked towards the counter.
“If we continue doing these jogs, and I bring you to the gym, you’re going to fill out these fine,” Jones said. Confidence seemed to exude from him, and Ryder was a bit envious as he finally straightened up and walked towards Jones. After the husky bought the suit, he just handed over the top. “You’d be tripping over yourself with these legs, so until you’re built up a bit you’ll just be running with the jacket,” he explained, and Ryder felt a bit foolish with how the jacket hung off him like a folds of fat, but he just took it in stride and followed Jones out of the store before they started jogging around the campus, the whole time Ryder keeping his eyes out for the collie, just in case he had to ditch the jacket so he didn’t look stupid in front of her...
Ryder didn’t see the collie for the run though, and after an hour of jogging around campus, Ryder and Jones made it back to the poodle’s room where Ryder collapsed onto the bed, unable to move as his entire body hurt, and his lungs burned like he’d breathed in acid. “Oh god...” he moaned, Jones chuckling as he sat in Ryder’s desk chair and took a drink of his water.
“You did a good job, Ryder! Let’s do this again tomorrow,” he said, and then stood up and patted Ryder on his back before walking out.
For a few moments Ryder was comatose with exhaustion before he realized what Jones said. “T... tomorrow?” he whined, digging his face into the sheets as he was too exhausted to get up and grab his book to study...
***
Every morning it was the same thing, Ryder would find Jones knocking on his door, and by no means would the dog take no for an answer. It became a common thing as Jones would bring in a delicious breakfast, and Ryder would be pulled out and do a jog with Jones. At first Ryder was so excited that he was doing some exercise, maybe he could impress the collie... but soon, he found himself wanting to impress Jones. They exchanged phone numbers on the morning of the fifth run, and would often text one another. They didn’t go to the gym for a month though as it only consisted of them running, and at first Jones did most of the talking, and by the end of the first month Ryder was talking about himself just as much, and studying fell aside as he found himself going bed early just to be up for the run on time.
“Ryder, good morning!” Jones said, Ryder swinging the door just before he even knocked. Jones was one of the most punctual people Ryder had ever met, and he thought it was admirable. “Because we’ve been running for the last month, I think we’re going to do something special.”
Raising his eyebrow, Ryder closed the door after Jones as he walked in. The poodle had put on some muscle. He wasn’t a powerhouse like Jones, but he could run for two hours now and still could run a little longer without being completely exhausted. “Are we going to the gym?”
“That, and something else,” Jones said, setting the food down before pulling out a gold stud. “You’re getting your first piercing!”
This wasn’t something Ryder was expecting, and he found himself withdrawing a bit as he kicked at the floor a bit. “I... I don’t know, Jones. I’m not exactly excited about that...” he muttered, and Jones shrugged.
“Let’s just eat, and we can talk it over,” Jones said, and Ryder sighed as he knew he had no intention of a piercing, but he figured he might as well entertain his friend. They sat down and started eating, and Ryder got an odd sensation just like when he was first eating with Jones, like.... he wanted to please the dog, and he’d been feeling that for a while. To be honest he hadn’t thought of that collie for a week now... he wondered why. “So about the stud, I think you’d look very cool with it,” Jones said, Ryder finishing up his food.
The poodle started to say no, but... he felt so confident about what Jones said and how he was always right. Maybe it wouldn’t look that bad... and he could remove it if he didn’t like it... “Why not?” the poodle laughed, and Jones grinned as he threw Ryder his sweat jacket and grinned. “We jogging there?” Ryder asked, knowing the answer already as he slipped it on. No longer did the jacket fit so poorly, though it did still sag around his chest a bit and his arms were still essentially twigs.
“Of course, let’s go!” Jones said, patting his friend on his back before shutting off the lights behind them, and he led the way to the piercing shop. Ryder was shocked at how excited he felt. To be honest since he had met Jones, he had started feeling more confident... he had even started sitting with the jocks at lunch with Jones, and had talked to a few of them. It only took them fifteen minutes to reach the piercing shop which was a mile away, and Jones arranged the whole thing with the guy at the desk, and within five minutes Ryder walked out with his first piercing, blushing as he looked at his reflection in the window. “It looks great, bud,” Jones said, patting his friend on the back as Ryder nodded.
Ryder used to distaste the idea of wearing a piercing... but... this didn’t look bad at all. It looked good against the black of his fur, and maybe he might even get another... maybe. “Yeah,” Ryder said, and they jogged towards the gym which Jones had run by with him a few times to show him where it was.
Inside was full of a variety of anthros, and Ryder found himself under a bar soon enough with Jones setting up the weights before helping spot him. “Isn’t this a little heavy?” Ryder asked, noting how heavy Jones had set the weights.
“You’ll get used to it. Come on, Ryder! You can do it,” Jones said, and though Ryder was still a little hesitant he did it anyways, after all Jones believed in him... He started pushing, and nearly failed, but Jones helped him, cheering him on as he did his first rep... then his second... Ryder was shocked at himself, but he kept pushing until he had done ten, and set it back up with Jones help panting heavily. “Great job! Now in five minutes we’ll do ten more!” Jones said, and Ryder nodded as he panted, feeling so good with Jones helping him.

Jones helped Ryder start picking out some new clothes as he grew. The poodle had abandoned studying now. Why waste his time on classes right now when he was getting so strong? “You should start showing off your abs, Ryder. You’re getting really nice,” Jones said, patting Ryder’s growing six pack as the poodle smiled in a mirror. He’d gotten a nose piercing the day prior, he looked dang good with it in, and with his twin studs glinting in his ear he was feeling awfully good about how he looked.
“You think?” Ryder asked, grinning as Jones nodded pulling out a button up red shirt. “Wow... I dunno, Jones...” Ryder said, he still had a few confidence problems, but Jones was helping him so much.
“Yeah, you’re going to look really handsome in this,” Jones said, buttoning up the shirt on Ryder who blushed as he got close. “See, I told you,” Jones said, grinning as Ryder looked into the mirror and flexed his muscles. He was so much bigger now after three months of exercising with Jones. He was almost as big as the husky now, and he looked more handsome and confident as he had grown his hair out a bit with Jones’ prodding.
Grinning at his reflection, Ryder nodded as he unbuttoned the shirt and let his forming abs shine through. “Yeah.... well let’s pay for this, and go to the gym. I have to get bigger,” he said, confidence growing as he looked at his new low hanging jeans. His sense of style was changing... and he was liking it.
The pair walked out, and Jones threw his arm over Ryder’s shoulder as they joked around, Ryder smiling happily as he felt Jones’ muscles, the husky’s smile growing larger as the poodle pushed into him. The pair didn’t say anything though as they broke apart and jogged the rest of the way to the gym, Ryder planning on pushing up his weights another twenty pounds.

Ryder sat with the other football players as messed with his new stud in his lower lip. He’d done it as a little gift as he had joined the football team three days prior. Both of the poodle’s ears carried a pair of studs, and he had his shirt unbuttoned showing off his buff chest and six pack as the other football players joked around. “Where’s Jones, Ryder?” Tommy, one of the linebackers, asked, and Ryder glanced around curiously.
“He said he’d be here in a bit...” Ryder said, pulling out his new phone courtesy of Jones about to text him when he got a kiss on the cheek. “There you are,” he said, and Jones smiled at him as he slid in beside his boyfriend.
“Sorry, hun. Had to grab you something,” Jones said, setting down a wrapped box in front of the poodle. “I know I gave you a phone for your birthday, but I got your text about getting into the team, and I had to get you these,” he said, and Ryder smiled as he opened the box.
A spiked collar and spiked wristbands sat inside, gold compared to his boyfriend’s own silver ones. “I love them, hun,” he said, kissing the husky before slipping them on. “Now, didn’t you promise me a run today?” he asked, smiling as Jones chuckled.
“I did, why don’t we get to our room and get changed. Though we might want to get new sweats soon, ours are getting small,” Jones said, Ryder nodding as they said goodbye to the other football players. As the couple walked towards the dorms, Ryder was stopped by a collie girl.
“E... excuse me, I was wondering if... you might want to go on a date with me?” the girl asked, smiling up at Ryder.
The poodle laughed and shook his head. “Sorry, but I’ve got my boyfriend right here. Thanks though,” Ryder said, patting her on the shoulder before taking Jones’ hand and they walked back to their room together.
