It goes against my instincts to cancel a game, but…
When I got the offer from fog.com, I started to think. If I’m ever full time for another company, I’m not going to have a lot of time for my hobbyist work. I will hate my spare time if it’s spent finishing a game for no other reason than I started it.
And while I’m not full time (fog.com rejected my game), I think I should apply that philosophy anyway.
Not Another First Person Shooter is only special because of the weapons. Sure, it was a funny idea, maybe worth some giggles, but it’s not worth months or even weeks of my time.
So I decided I will start a title I’ve wanted to do since I was 10 years old– Superbird. I’ve always liked the platform genre, and I would love to make a platforming game that is not a side scroller. I would also like to experiment with making entire level geometry in Blender, and Superbird is the perfect candidate.
I was inspired by Mario 64…of course, hopefully the graphics will be better and I can probably think of gameplay elements that weren’t in Mario 64, but there will be a lot of similarities.
After the offer from fog.com fell through, I got depressed and made the model for Superbird. I’m thinking I’ll make the cape later when I start to develop the flying levels.
