Many years ago, when I worked in TV repair, I went to an old Victorian mansion to fix a TV.
The place was INCREDIBLE! As if it was untouched by time! The kitchen was almost 100% original, except for a free standing sink/countertop which looked right out of the 1940s or 50s.
It had a dumbwaiter, a bell tower and an old pipe communications between the kitchen and an upstairs bedroom.
The place had barely been electrified and still had gas lighting intact!
The owner passed away and it came up on the market for $130,000. Of course, I contacted the realtor and went through it.
I just could not get a loan with my income..... and it sold to someone else.
Oh, I was so frustrated...
One part of the story behind that house, which was very disconcerting, was that there was a small two room house behind the mansion. The story was the husband made his wife live by herself in that house while he lived in the mansion with the servants.... That is just so wrong...

Oh my god, that place sounds amazing! :O I just looove those "frozen in time" houses. (I made a post in the History Furs a bit ago about such houses, if you haven't seen them.) I wonder if the new owners kept any of it? Probably not. :(
Usually those little separate "houses" are for the teenage boys, so they can do their dirty teenage things without disrupting the rest of the household. XD But man, why did the guy even bother getting married if the didn't want to be with the lady? :/
