When Bernard Doove wrote the stories that ultimately became the collection "Transformations" that Fauxpaw Publications released, it spawned a couple of wish-fulfillment fan stories about people gleefully (and, to my mind, somewhat short-sightedly) cashing in on the opportunity to jump the species boundary.

I decided to throw the Law of Unintended Consequences at the technology that the original story introduced, showing a reason why it might not be as freely available as some of the other fans may have liked. This story was the result.
