This is the first COMET TALES panel. Unfortunately, I lost Mike's caption, but I can tell you what's going on here- Back in 1910, during Halley's first go-round of the 20th century, when people were really scared that the comet would cause the end of the world, a cult somewhere in Oklahoma was going to sacrifice a virgin to it to stave off Doomsday. The local sheriff got wind of this, and he and a posse managed to save the girl's life at the last moment. This was published, declared "sexist", and the series cancelled. Mike managed to hang on to his job, but we never collaborated again on anything, which was a shame, because he was a funny writer. Rats.
