Sorry for meddling,
but I once had that sma problem, but I ocvercame it... so you may, too^
As a suggestion,. you can start working on two characters as separated artworks, then to combine them in a single one( using it as a practice until you get the hand of it - at least, to teach yourself to match the both characters together though their diffetent traits and proportions )... well, just as a suggestion though!
