Actually you are not far off from this idea..... I believe that hunters should take over land management(and no not those rednecks that sits in a tree stand, drinking beer hoping something comes by so they can shoot it) because they have the greatest concern about wildlife and our natural spaces than anyone else as most real hunters only take what is needed and leaves the place just like if not better than how they found it.......
The people you describe are not called 'hunters,' they are called 'gamekeepers.'
Many British manors have a Gamekeeper in charge of the 'wild land' adjoining the property. He's responsible for managing the wildlife, and he's the one who carries the gun when the rich twit- er, the lord of the manor wishes to go hunting. The Gamekeeper tracks the prey, with the Lord in tow, and when the prey is found, and the Gamekeeper deems it a suitable target, THEN he hands the rifle off to the lord and quietly coaches him through the shot.
The tree-sitting rednecks aren't Gamekeepers, they're barely making the definition of hunters, the category they most fit are 'drunken idiots.'

Again another person half reading what I said..... Yes I do know what a game keeper is and those are here as well which I put into the redneck category because they don't promote preservation unless there is a paycheck behind it and their form of hunting is called a canned hunt where they find the healthiest animal they can find for their lord to kill and boast about..... A hunter is someone that only takes what is needed for them and those for their community while trying to preserve the rest for future generations......
The gamekeeper you describe is one who is not doing his job right. A proper British Gamekeeper's first duty is to the land. When the lord of the manor wants to go on a hunt, the Gamekeeper will let him know which animal is 'in season' at that time, and the particular animal tracked and hunted is one the Gamekeeper had already marked as needing to be removed to maintain the balance on the land. A proper gamekeeper deals with a rich twit lord of the manor by using lies of omission to lead the lord down the primrose path, sighing under his breath as the lord is interrupting his work for the lord's own entertainment.
The animals a proper gamekeeper selects for culling are either predator species growing too numerous for the limited prey population, meat species maintained to restock the larder, or a combination of the two. (If the kitchen staff can mate the meat safe and tasty to eat, the chosen beast goes in the larder)
The gamekeeper of a manor would consider his first duty to be to the land, and his second duty is , not to the lord of the manor, but to the lord's great-great grandson, striving to maintain the balance of the land for generations yet to be born.
The British have a long tradition of managing the wilderness as if it were an extension of the well-manicured lawns they relish. The rich twits get to play and frolic while the working class work themselves to the bone to make sure the twits don't break anything that cannot be fixed.

Actually this a good chunk of the attitude I was referring to. A select few claim they know whats best and the rest of you can bugger off. There is no 'quick' answer to this here or any where else in the country, Like the fracking in Pennsylvania and what it is doing to the hunting and fishing there.
It reminds me of a dam that connects a small island to the mainland. The dam had to be fortified because of it's age. Along came a few well-meaning, but misguided animal protection people. Now the dam is secured against foxes and cost half a million more. Now the foxes can't walk ocver the dam to get to the birds on the island.
Well, first, they can just walk over during the low tide. And second, a 50 year old guy living on the island told the reporters that he remembers when he rowed to the island together with his dad when he was a boy and saw a fox simply swimming between the island and the mainland.
The result, half a million down the drain and the birds are in no more or less danger of being wiped out by foxes than they have been for decades.

But some politician got to funnel half a million dollars to his/her buddies, and got to cheer him/herself at the next election cycle for 'saving' the birds. (Even though the burds have not been 'saved,' for politicians results do not matter, just the appearance of activity.)
Oh goody.
Maybe we should really look into these oaths of office.
Breaking some of these is punished by at least one year in jail.
I know some of them are rather undefined, going about to the best of their ability. But after wasteing money like that once a politician should pack up and leave his office. an accident I can forgive. If he doesn't and wastes money again it could be argued he is not just incompetent, but also too incompetent to recognize it. Or he does it on purpose.
I know it is unrealistic to thin that.
I'm just saying that there is a law about breaking oaths that is rarely used. And it definitly includes oaths of offie of our ministers and the office of chancellor.
P.S. I'm speaking about german law just in case someone wonders what we are talking about.

Well, German politics might be a little different from American politics.
Would you like to know a secret? There's a sure-fire way to tell if an American politician is lying. Would you like to know how?
The best sign that an American politician is lying is that he or she is breathing.
...
At the risk of crossing a line, could we sens all our politicians over there for a tour of 'those' sh- No, no, despite my dislike of American politicians, I can't go there, not with someone living in the Fatherland. It might be an acceptable joke over here, but it might open up old wounds over there.

So, it looks like it's true everywhere, ALL politicians are corrupt liars.
I think we should have kept that tradition from Sparta: when the city-state's leader finished with his term of office, he was publicly impeached and made to defend EVERY decision he made during his term.

They're shooting wolves and bears from planes in Alaska to "bolster the caribou and moose population". The premise is that the predators have brought the big game animal population down to almost unsustainable levels. This shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the way predator-prey relationships work. Of course it couldn't be the subsistence hunters tooling around on ATVs and snow machines shooting everything with four legs that is causing the reduction in moose and caribou, it must be those darn wolves!
