Vrell - a Kobold Psion Wilder that managed to escape a life of slavery at a very young age by teleporting away by accident into a void...
Two days later, he was pulled out of that void by a disguised Copper Dragoness: The Lady Alkaphendellas. Like several other kobold, and species labeled as 'lesser races', she took it upon herself to raise, train and look after them. (Think a sexy dragoness version of Father Chains from Scott Lynch's Locke Lamora books.)
Her bedtime stories to the young kobolds in her care usually consisted of either heroic tales from the adventures from her previous students, or cleverly veiled visions she had of the young kobold's future adventures.
Before anyone says it: Unite Hand!!

You know that is one of the things that always kind of bugged me in DnD is how some races are just considered vermin, yet they still live life and have families, emotions, and motivations. But your reaction to them is supposed to be the same as dealing with rats or something...its really fucked.
I like this view point alot though and the fact that there are those that take it upon themselves to guard them.

There have been numerous accounts of goodly characters trying to give races generally considered evil (goblins etc) a chance- only to have them turn on them. Given to the conclusion that a part of their genetic nature actually has that ruthless savagery ingrained into it.
But just like how there are humans who could harm a kitten, there are Kobolds and even goblins who want to do good.

that is abit of a constant and reoccurring plot point that i dont favor myself but you are right, but i still think more people should take the time to create or acknowledge those good characters from those races.
And Kobolds are actually very interesting considering they are a dragon kin race...so its odd that they get that vermin race label.
