Squeakie.
Last one. :) This finishes the comic. Everything else in my gallery takes place after this, chronologically speaking. :3
...but there's a small amount of epilogue text for those interested:
A short time later...
The canine detective poked an exposed wall joist with the end of his pencil before looking back up at Kate. "So nobody heard anything?"
"No."
"And you didn't see anything?"
Kate sighed, "No, like I told the first two officers: I was in front of the house the whole time. Half the neighborhood was here."
He rubbed his temples, "Yes, I've talked with most of them already. It just seems improbable that someone could move a major appliance without someone noticing." He turned back to the jagged hole. "Through a wall no less."
Kate shrugged.
He spent a few more minutes examining the hole in silence before speaking again, "And the mess in the front yard?"
Kate shifted uncomfortably, "I had a sort of bake sale. I was really just giving out some extra food I had to the rest of the neighborhood. It was free..."
He turned back to face her, his eyes glancing down at her exposed purple spare tire.
Kate blushed, "I had a, uh, lot extra."
"Uh huh." He turned back to the yard and began to follow the marks gouged into the grass behind the house, poking at random bits of debris along the way.
Kate quietly followed him. She tried to pull her shirt back down over her stomach only to have it stubbornly reappear. It seemed her plan wasn't totally effective. Her stomach was much less of the mountain it had been this morning but the bouncing and jiggling she felt as they wandered though the yard still felt foreign. Kate idly wondered if the weight from the first days of endless snacking would ever come back off.
As they entered the alley the remains of the wall that used to be behind the refrigerator came into view. It had been reduced to several clumps of wood and drywall shards. The tracks ended apparently as the yard turned into the compacted dirt of the alley. The detective spent another couple of minutes looking around before pulling out a small camera and taking pictures of the tracks from a few different angles. He wandered further down the alley and disappeared from sight as Kate waited at the edge of her yard.
After a couple of minutes he reappeared and strolled back over to Kate, "Well, this is definitely the weirdest thing I've had to look at in some time. We don't have a whole lot to go on, but if something turns up I'll let you know."
"What should I do about the wall?"
He shrugged, "I've been told the building inspector should be down here shortly to make sure the building is safe, I'd ask him. Until then don't go back in there."
"Ok, thank you." Kate once again pulled her shirt down, only to have it pop back up again. Chelsea had gone off to grab some new looser clothing and Kate was really hoping she'd be back soon. She hadn't planned on being stuck outside.
He nodded and began to walk back towards the front of the house, "Don't mention it. Call the station if anything else weird happens."
