Sure.
Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals permanently. This is often done by melting the work pieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material (the weld puddle) that cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce the weld. This is in contrast with soldering and brazing, which involve melting a lower-melting-point material between the work pieces to form a bond between them, without melting the work pieces.
There is Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), also known as MIG welding.
Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), which is also known as or stick welding
Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW)
Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), or tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding
And Oxyacetylene welding.
May sound complicated, but it’s a really awesome skill to learn, (but if you can’t handle EXTREME heat it ain’t for you) and the money ain’t bad either. I make $35+ an hour working on fence lines; underwater welders make an estimated $250-300 an hour!
