I couldn't decide whether this needed closer cropping? Is the foal a bit lost against the background? Or does it need that space for her to 'run into'?

You could have got a bit closer but I still think it fits to the kind of foto to be a bit far away. So don't worry it a good picture at all. Nothing you have to change...just if you want to you could crop it a bit like Sorral has said.
