Bubba's chubbyness can present a few problems. For example, he finds it difficult to reach far enough over his belly to wash his feet properly, and the sweat and dirt tends to gather in all the wrinkles of his fat, chunky webbed soles. Thankfully though, he can usually get other people to take care of such cleaning duties...
ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS: Clean Version | No Dirt Version
Oh look. It's Bubba.
...
You know, Bubba... Remember? Bubba? The big fat duck? The character of mine whom I presented to the fandom in Spring 2011, and of whom you've seen almost nothing since?... Yeah. That Bubba.
To most people, it may have seemed like I'd forgotten Bubba, or just abandoned using him altogether. But that couldn't be further from the truth, otherwise I wouldn't have created him.
Y'see, I'm secretly quite fond of Bubba. I think about him. A lot. And even though the only images you've seen of him are his introductory image and his 2012 profile, I've actually been drawing loads of pictures of him - but they're all part of an incomplete crush comic that I've been meaning to get finished for years. (Hopefully you might just see it in the near future...)
In fact, I actually rather enjoy drawing Bubba. He's like a relic from a past era of my artwork, a time of simplicity and more toony expression. Some folks tell me they miss that style, and sometimes I do too, because it was much easier. That's one of the beauties of Bubba though: He's permanently cartoony. That's how I designed him, and that makes him my easiest character to draw.
Given most of my energies concerning Bubba have been directed towards that unfinished comic, I'm conscious that there's been almost no artwork of him out there since I created him, and recently I've been keen to change that. Not least because I can produce pictures of him quite quickly, which is most welcome on the back of my frustration over last year's lack of productivity.
Various ideas for Bubba have been coming to the forefront of my mind lately, and I started work on this piece last weekend. The linework was done by Monday, then I worked on it bit by bit during the week before finishing it tonight. Most of the process was kept straightforward - including the background, which is just another one of those lazy abstract textures that doesn't really represent anything.
It's plain for all to see that this is me once again indulging heavily in my obsession with musky, cheesy feet. While I kept most of this picture simple, I went gratuitously overboard on dirt and sweat detail just to hammer the point home. However, I know it's not to everyone's tastes, so I've repeated my usual trick of producing some alternative versions. There are TWO alt versions of this piece: One 'No Dirt' version for those that only like the sweaty look, and one 'Clean' version for those that simply want to see plush, untarnished soles. So take your pick.
Anyway, enjoy for now. And fingers crossed you will be seeing big old Bubba again fairly soon.

Precisely why I've taken to producing clean versions in recent years. And indeed, I am quite fond of the clean version myself - spent a bit of time trying to tidy up the layers so that it looked as nice as possible in its own right.
Glad it was worth the effort!

Oh RRRex. There are other characters that have had it worse but it's nice to finally see this overly plump duck. Also, I can't help but remember that there was another comic you were working on that involved another character with snails I believe - I wish you didn't abandon it.
Ah well, it's up to you, I'll always watch you anyway.
