Stumbled across this cutie the other night. Giant wood moths are the worlds heaviest moth! One of my faves since childhood <3

Unfortunately it was near the end of its life when found and passed away that night. But I have kept it to use as a reference :D

They really are! As a child I'd run around and scare people with them attached to my clothing XD Many of this species are from witchetty grub, which you may have heard of (the edible giant grub in the Australian bush :D ))

Not most colorful but certainly a beauty to it.

I am partial to moths, even if they hit me in the face as I walk during night hours. Seen lots of different kinds.

Haha its OK, its best not to handle them anyway :D This one was dying when I found it, but even so I just nudged my fingertips under its front legs so it walked onto my hand :)

We had a moth in my house the other day is had like 2-3 inch wing span butwas only and inch and a half big and was a pretty sandy brown mom thought it was a bird lol i had to use a rang to catch it cause it got under the stove and mom was freaking out trying to kill it >.<

We don't get anything near that size, but it seems our house is a favored destination for white-lined sphinx moths. They seem to like to hang out around our front doorstep for a few days, often when the air is getting a bit damp. They've even become a portent for rain to us. :P

theres ways of preserving the moth if you wish to keep it idk if you've started the process or not think its some kind of injection to preserve and dry the body and you could mount and frame it then. least can be of sound mind that they died naturaly

A moth the size of a hand grenade.... That must hurt if you are riding a motorcycle and hit one. australia, where the bugs can kill you, even the non poisonous ones (WHACK!!!)

Wow. I've found a hawkmoth nearly that big once, but this cute fuzzy guy is absolutely enormous! :D

Biggest ones I've seen where a bit bigger than half that one and it did scare the heck out of a family friend visiting when she saw it on her room's door hehe
