This fella was wandering about our parking lot one day, so we captured him and put him on our patio out of harm's way while trying to figure out where to take him. I shredded some cucumber for him while we made some calls, which he promptly ignored.

He's a gopher tortoise, a vunerable species of land tortoise here in Florida. Finally we got ahold of Fish and Wildlife who directed us to take him to a wooded area.

So it was in the car, me holding a hissing, kicking tortoise. He wasn't a small one either, nor weak one. But we made it to a densely grown wooded area and let him go there. The reason he was wandering about in the parking lot was probably the fact that he was looking for a mate. They rarely wander about unless they're looking for some nookie. So let's hope he found a mate in the safety of the forest, instead.
