One guy upon seeing it and hearing the armament description said the it only leaves the dock to go to war.

Good gawd. I suspect 4 warp engines from a D-generation starship would shred the hull of a Constitution class starship like newspaper.

I built a Reliant class ship once, but removed the strange sensor bridgework over the primary hull, capping the anchor points with a small streamlined spare part -- maybe a wingtip or something. It made the Reliant a much cleaner design, and seemed to make more sense. If the bridge like thing was useful, why didn't other classes have one?

It's not a sensor. That is the Photon Torpedo launcher.

The two humps on the top of the saucer are fighter through deck launch bays. Each one holds a squadron of fighters.
