I had an idea for an axe with a slender, straight blade close to a straight shaft, but since some of the power of the axe comes from the striking surface being forward of the grip, such an axe would be less efficient than an axe with a greater offset. So I added a curve to the shaft, bringing the grip back from the striking surface. I like the contrast between the graceful haft and the rather ridged head.

Unless I'm reading it wrong those initials read "D I J" As for the axe, ALL the power and momentum comes from the swing of the shaft. The longer the shaft, the more power, the shorter, the more control. This shaft shape is very ergonomic and does put the blade surface well ahead of the grip. I don't know how thick the blade would be though so I can't comment on it's total strength/durability. I like the curve behind the blade where it attaches to the rest of the weapon. This is very important in all bearded axes to help prevent them from breakage. The axe head's grip coverage of the shaft, where it holds onto the shaft tip, seems a little small. Longer points down the side of the shaft should fix this without having to modify the rest of the axe head. Also, a slight downward curve of the spike would help prevent bending/breakage of it as well as aid in entry and removal of the spike from the target. However, the spike does not fit well with the shape of the shaft. I.E. with this shaft shape, it would be awkward to use the spike in combat and if it it a one handed weapon, the spike would be rendered useless as the shape of the shaft is made better for use in only one direction. A wrapping on the shaft behind the beard would add better grip for the second hand as well unless this is strictly a one handed weapon. If it is a one handed weapon it's over-all length seems a little long and weighty. The slight curve in the blade's beard is nice but seems uneven at the top of the blade without a small protruding tip with it's own slight curve.
Sorry about the paragraph :P Melee weapons are my thing. Hope this helps you with further weapon design ^^ Or improving this one :P

Thanks for the comment!
Since it's a fantasy design I allowed myself some leeway with reality. The spike's main purpose is to accentuate the angular nature of the head to contrast with the curvature of the grip - though on a functional note one could argue that it adds weight on the outside of the swing. The insubstantial connection between the shaft and head is meant to suggest elvish litheness, and since elves are magical beings, one could justify that the structure is reenforced with magic.
And the runes, read right to left, are "T P D", my initials.
