Holy crap am I impressed by the outcome of this one. This is an extremely exciting piece, and it all came together during the concert, making for an incredibly exhilarating ending. Enormously fun to play, and intensly challenging given the fast tempo and time signature changes, I was worried it would work.. but it did! Give a listen and let me know what you think.. it is moments like these that make me thankful I found a good band to play in.
I myself am performing on timpani, triangle and snare drum.

Philistine and cultural-illiterate that I am, here's what came to mind while listening:
Christmastime --> Star Trek IV --> Star Trek TOS fight BGM --> "this holiday's family sensation!" --> Watership Down --> tense moment in a Rankin-Bass stop motion cartoon --> Fluppy Dogs --> Holst's Jupiter --> medley of the previous --> Andrew Lloyd Weber --> applause
If any in that list was offensive to you, Krahnos, I do apologize ^_^;

*grins* The top number is how many beats are in a measure. The bottom number indicates what note gets one beat. In the case of 7/8 time, there are 7 beats in a measure, and the eighth note gets one beat. You would follow the beat one of two ways.. 4 -3, or 3 -4, or 1-2-3-4-1-2-3 / 1-2-3-1-2-3-4.
