the new one is smoother but there's more color gradation on the old one. You could just blend the old one and get interesting results I think. BUT THEN AGAIN I'm no authority on coloring. =w=;

Absolute basics here :3 The colors look right enough , but a much bigger issue is the values. The light and shadow so to speak. If you are trying to copy, as exactly as possible, the fruit in the photo then there are some major issues that shouldn't stand out this much o.o The apple has an incredibly deep shadow near the top that is near completely black that should be in yours as well if you were trying to accurately copy it. Even if not trying to copy it exactly that shadow should be there. I think you might benefit from making the pictures grayscale and seeing how well they match up to each other, and maybe even make a grayscale study or two :3 The highlight on the apple is nearly pure white, while yours is not.
Above texture and color is values.
