Not exactly. I second player can use the PS3 controller.

L2 - red
L1 - green
R1 - yellow
R2 - Blue
Triangle - Orange
Up or Down to activate star power.
Right analog for whammy bar.
(I might be off with the last two but I know there are controls for them)

No button to strum, just push the buttons.

I never tried it as player one by myself but I have used the controller as a bassist.
