
So, I've always known my dog had MegaEsophagus. I never knew how bad, though. Here is an X-Ray with lines I drew on it to show you how big it is. Larger than her heart! The vet said that this is the worst case she has ever seen, but at the same time the best because there aren't any underlying conditions like Addisons/MG/DM.

It's an enlargement of the esophagus that disallows the proper entry of food into the stomach. In a nornal esophagus, muscles cause the food to be pushed down through our digestive tract. With megaesophagus, the muscle has lost it's tone, remains enlarged, and does not function properly. It often leads to ill digestion, regurgitation and aspiration of food into the lungs. It's more common in large-breed dogs.
